README.linux is specific to this directory,

README.s3 refers to Amancio Hasty's BSD release and is relavent to both
linux and bsd.

READ both!

The server is based on the linux v1.1 release, i.e. prior to linux having
networking, therefore I assume network connections will not be possible.
You will need the basic X setup, grab the XFree86 archives, unpack them and
then uncompress the fonts: i.e.

cd /usr/X386/lib/X11/fonts
uncompress */*.Z
mkfontdir *

You will need to make a Xconfig for your card, the example here is for the
act-?.? rd, the clocks line will be different for other cards, check your
card documentation.

The S3src archive should have all you need to build the server under linux,

This ftpd has the wuarchive externsions, you should be able to pick up tar
and .Z files from the mit src tree by adding the .tar or .Z or .tar.Z filename
extensions to the directories.

Want to help support the S3 server?
mail jon@robots.ox.ac.uk and ask to join the s3-alpha mailing list
<s3-alpha@robots.ox.ac.uk>.

Send bug reports to me or the above address, but _please_ quote the version
number printed on startup with any bug report. Check that the bug isn't
in the current BUGS list.

Jon.
